Job Details:

Mercer University is searching for a Junior Programmer Analyst on the Macon, Georgia campus.


Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of this position is working with data to produce reports and computer systems that provide timely and accurate information to our end users in the performance of their jobs. Additional responsibilities include maintaining the integrity, validity, and security of all data and data systems within the confines of the University computing systems. The incumbent will also provide third-level technical support for applications and end users throughout the University. This will include working with 3rd party vendors for additional support.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer programming, or a closely related field is required, along with one year of progressive experience in programming with object-oriented methodologies that must include a basic understanding of relational databases, and basic knowledge of TSQL language that includes data definition and data manipulation. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and some professional field-related experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired will be considered.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must work well with hands-on supervision

  • Attention to detail

  • Basic comprehension of using a web interface to call Application Programming Interfaces (API). This entails working with WebAPIs (e.g. ASP.NET Core Web API or equivalent)

  • High-level logic as it pertains to data flow and business processes

  • Understand the basics of Object Oriented (OO) Programming. A clear understanding of classes, objects, encapsulation, and constructors

  • Understands the basics of currently used programming languages such as .Net (C# or VB.Net), and scripting languages such as JavaScript, Angular or PowerShell

  • Familiarity with web page development to include Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Should have an understanding of how web pages make database connections and how data is extracted, inserted or deleted via a web interface

  • Understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL) and the various objects found in the database. Understand the differences between and uses of Data Manipulation Language (DML) and Data Definition Language (DDL) queries

  • Understanding of the phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and they impact the efficiency and cost effectiveness of our development efforts

  • Written and oral communication skills

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Able to explain the difference between a Stored Procedure, View, and Function. Microsoft SQL Server experience.

  • Experience with version control platforms such as Git or Visual Source Safe.

  • Programming experience with C# or VB.Net.
