Responsibilities

Description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish agreements with suppliers for timely acquisition of goods and services while maintaining compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
  • Participate in New Product Development (NPD) meetings and projects, providing sourcing support as required to meet targeted objectives on time and within budget.
  • Manage supply base to drive preferred supplier performance, deliveries, quality, cost, etc. to meet organizational objectives; act as a liaison with appropriate personnel across all business units and foster solid working relationships with suppliers.
  • Participate in the Value Engineering workshops held in the 3D NPD process.
  • Perform day-to-day processing of purchase requisitions and purchase orders; and provide appropriate support for internal stakeholders, such as engineering, product development, and product management
  • Contribute to overall performance targets and corporate goals
  • Assist Sourcing leadership in data gathering and analysis, provide recommendations and research in purchasing decisions of goods and services
  • Assist and lead in accurately setting up new supplier and contract set-up within internal systems
  • Provide accurate costing updates to support companies financial objectives
  • Collect and compile data to create and maintain reports to communicate status of PPV, cost rolls, and cost management activities
  • Prepare and send bid solicitations -- Request for Information (RFI), Request for Quotations (RFQs), and Request for Proposals (RFPs) -- in compliance with corporate policies and procedures
  • Evaluate quotes/proposals and communicate award recommendations based upon pre-defined selection criteria (e.g., benefits/cost savings, quality/service, etc.).
  • Leverage defined negotiation strategies and establish contractual agreements with selected suppliers
  • Perform any additional ad-hoc tasks or projects as required by sourcing leadership
  • Drive safe practices within MSA as well as throughout the supply base.
  • 15% Domestic/International travel required

Special knowledge, skills and abilities preferred:

  • Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Proven track record demonstrating cross functional relationships, communication, discipline project tracking and execution.  

 

Education and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering or related discipline.
  • This position is available at two different career levels based upon experience, education, etc.:
    • Level one: 2 years of relevant experience (purchasing, sourcing and/or engineering related)
    • Level two: 4 years of relevant experience (purchasing, sourcing and/or engineering related)

Experience preferred:

  • Experience using SAP
  • Advanced skills with Excel based on level of experience
  • Working knowledge/experience with supplier quality assessments, audits, SPAP (purchased parts approval process), and CAPEX development
  • Facilitation or participation in Value Engineering (VE) workshops

Level I: Experience with strategic supplier relationships, new product development projects, and driving cost savings

 

Level II: All above plus experience with negotiation and contracting.

 


Education preferred: 
        

  • ASCM: CSCP or ISM: CIPS / CPSM Certification
