Description:

Aquila's Fitness Specialist (multi-site) assists members in safe and effective exercise and performs a wide range of technical exercise and administrative duties at several health/fitness centers in Washington, DC and surrounding metro areas. Candidates must be willing to travel to various locations in the DC metro area, including but not limited to Arlington, VA, Springfield, VA, Hyattsville, MD, Greenbelt, MD and Washington D.C.

The salary for this position is $24.52/hourly which is $51,000 annually, plus a $200 monthly travel reimbursement and company benefits described below. Work hours are 8 hours per day, Monday-Friday. The work day may start as early as 5:30 a.m. or the work day may start as late as 12 p.m.

Responsibilities include:

  • Travel to various locations in the DC metro area, including but not limited to Arlington, VA, Springfield, VA, Greenbelt, MD, Hyattsville, MD and Washington D.C.
  • Conduct personal training sessions and teach group exercise classes
  • Supervise exercise areas
  • Educate members concerning safe exercise techniques
  • Perform exercise assessments and prescribe exercise upon American College of Sports Medicine guidelines
  • Conduct safe and effective assessments including cardiovascular, strength, flexibility and body composition analysis; evaluate and interpret data and identify high risk participants and special populations
  • Aid members - spotting and equipment usage
  • Explain all equipment
  • Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of all equipment
  • Adhere to departmental and club policies and procedures
  • Adhere to clients policies and procedures
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Assist in wellness and fitness promotions and external events
  • Perform daily administrative duties

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Exercise Physiology or in related health/fitness field
  • Active NCCA accredited fitness certification such as those through ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM, NCSF, NCCPT or NSCA (can be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Active CPR certification
  • 0-1 years experience in supervising adults during exercises
  • Must be able to commute to client locations in southern Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia (DC Metro area)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to federal security clearance requirement
