We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting. This role offer the flexibility to work in a hybrid capacity from one of our office locations in AR, ME or OK, or remotely from TX.


POSITION SUMMARY

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our external financial reporting while maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. You will provide technical accounting expertise, analyze complex financial transactions, and support the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for upholding the highest standards of financial accuracy.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide Technical Accounting Guidance
    • Research and interpret accounting standards, regulations, and pronouncements to ensure compliance.
    • Advise on the appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions, including revenue recognition, leases, and derivatives.
    • Assess the impact of new accounting standards and recommend necessary adjustments to existing policies and procedures.
    • Document and memorialize accounting viewpoints based on authoritative guidance and interpretations.
  2. Financial Reporting and Analysis
    • Prepare and/or review quarterly financial statements—including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and related disclosures—ensuring accuracy and GAAP compliance across multiple reporting sets.
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential risks, and provide actionable recommendations.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver timely, accurate financial information for audits, regulatory filings, and periodic debt covenant compliance.
    • Administer the external reporting platform (Workiva) and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Accounting Policy and Procedure Development
    • Assist in creating and implementing accounting policies to promote consistent application of standards across the organization.
    • Monitor changes in accounting regulations and industry practices and recommend updates as needed.
    • Conduct training sessions to educate Finance and other departments on current policies, procedures, and standards.
  4. Internal Controls and Compliance
    • Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of internal controls to protect assets, ensure data integrity, and mitigate risk.
    • Assist with external audit coordination and provide timely support for audit inquiries and documentation requests.
  5. Cross-functional Collaboration
    • Support external audit management, including calendar development, tracking requests and open items, and performance metric evaluation to improve results.
    • Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Finance, Legal, Operations) to ensure alignment in accounting treatment and financial reporting of complex transactions.
    • Provide technical accounting support during contract negotiations, acquisitions, and divestitures, including agreement reviews for GAAP compliance.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA certification required
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience required
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Regulated utility accounting experience strongly preferred

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Strong focus on meeting and exceeding deadlines
  • Initiative to develop and communicate best practices and methodologies
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting standards
  • Demonstrated experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, and analysis
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
  • Experience with multiple accounting systems; working knowledge of SAP and Oracle preferred
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-financial stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
