About the Position 

Are you a data storyteller with a knack for long-term strategy? Luster National is looking for a Data Analyst focused on Long Range Access Development to support transportation and infrastructure planning initiatives. In this role, you'll use data to help shape future access strategiesanalyzing current conditions, forecasting future needs, and supporting infrastructure decisions that serve communities over the long term. This is a high-impact position that combines technical skill with mission-driven purpose. 

This is a long-term, full-time, onsite position located in the greater Washington DC metro area.  

Responsibilities may include the following 

  • Collect, clean, and manage large datasets related to transportation, land use, demographics, and access needs. 
  • Analyze access trends and long-range mobility patterns to inform route selection, infrastructure prioritization, and design alternatives. 
  • Use tools like SQL, Python, R, or Tableau to build visualizations, dashboards, and reports that turn complex data into actionable insights. 
  • Evaluate feasibility and impacts of proposed infrastructure or transportation solutions using geospatial, economic, and user behavior data. 
  • Support the development of data-informed long-term planning strategies in collaboration with engineers, planners, and client stakeholders. 
  • Prepare clear presentations and visual narratives to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Stay current with transportation planning trends, equity and access principles, and emerging tools in data science.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelors Degree in Data Science, Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education/experience. 
  • 5+ years work experience in data analytics or transportation planning. 
  • Knowledge of transportation or infrastructure planning principles, including long-range modeling, accessibility metrics, and environmental considerations. 
  • Proficient in data analysis using visualization platforms like Power BI or Tableau. 
  • Proficient with Python, R, and SQL. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Masters degree in Data Science, Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering.  
  • Experience with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS). 

Compensation Details 

The salary range listed for this role is $104k-$150k/yr ($50-$72/hr.) The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidates level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
