Job Summary
This position will work with the TechWomen Program. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the TechWomen program empowers, connects, and supports the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East. Through professional and cultural mentorship and the development of social impact projects, TechWomen participants gain access to global networks, resources, and knowledge to reach their full potential and become catalysts for impact in their home communities. The collaborative TechWomen team are dedicated to building a dynamic global community of women in STEM through quality programming, efficient operations and a focus on personal relationships.
The Program Officer provides administrative and logistical support for a diverse set of project activities throughout the life cycle of the TechWomen program, including application and selection, logistics and operations, participant support and event planning and execution. Collaborating with the program team, the Program Officer will implement a variety of projects in adherence with all sponsor, contractual and IIE guidelines.
Essential Functions:
• Provides coordination and occasional oversight of logistical and administrative projects and activities throughout all phases of program implementation: outreach and recruitment, application and selection, participant preparation and in-program support, and U.S. based program activities, with a particular focus on program activities in Chicago.
• Program Officer will have the opportunity to manage stand-alone projects based on programmatic needs and interests, including supporting Chicago-based participants during their time in the U.S.
• Manages procurements and contracting of select program vendors for U.S. and overseas programming.
• Supports participants in filing U.S. and state tax return in compliance with federal and state laws.
• Communicates and collaborates with entities outside of the immediate program team, including other IIE teams and external contacts, to develop and deliver essential program pieces (i.e. management of application system and virtual event and learning platform(s)).
• Supports event planning and execution, including day-of event setup and breakdown.
• Maintains multiple databases tracking detailed program information.
• Assists with the processing of payments, expense reporting, tracking expenditures and cost share, and event reporting.
• Represents the TechWomen program while professionally interacting with program stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
• Requires a bachelor's degree and at least two (2) years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong organization skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to work well under pressure, prioritizing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Keen ability to adapt to various situations and solve problems efficiently and effectively.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.
• Basic understanding and interest in logistical coordination.
• Ability to interact with all levels of staff and external contacts; sensitive to cultural differences when working with people from other cultures or backgrounds.
• Ability and willingness to provide onsite event support outside of traditional working hours, including some nights and weekends, primarily during participants’ stay in the US.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, including ability to analyze data and produce data visualizations, desired.
• Experience with application platforms (e.g. Slate) preferred.
• Passion for and/or experience in supporting women’s empowerment initiatives, global education, exchange, and training, and/or women in STEM highly encouraged.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary Range: $59,232 - $66,102. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, internal organizational equity, and geographic region.
