POSITION SUMMARY

The Instructor supporting the 53rd Space Operations Squadron (53 SOPS) at Fort Detrick, Maryland, is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and developing courseware for the Wideband Qualification Training (QT) course, which includes the Transmission Controller (TC) and Payload Controller (PC) training blocks. This role includes classroom and simulator-based instruction, curriculum development, simulator support, and collaboration with government counterparts to ensure mission-ready operators for MILSATCOM operations.

This position requires strong technical knowledge of SATCOM operations and instructional system design (ISD) practices aligned with DAFMAN 36-2675. The instructor may participate in up to 11 courses annually, each lasting 26 weeks, and support simulator platforms such as SST, WTCS, Wideband Thin Client, and TTS.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Deliver structured instruction for the Wideband QT course, specifically the TC and PC tracks, using classroom and hands-on learning formats.
  • Create, revise, and maintain ISD-based courseware including lesson plans, assessments, and training guides, aligned with the Mission Task List (MTL) and Ready Space crew Task Memorandum (RTM) requirements.
  • Adhere to DAFMAN 36-2675 and apply the ADDIE model to ensure instruction quality and consistency.
  • Estimate 15 hours of courseware development for each hour of new or revised instructional content.
  • Support up to 11 iterations of the 26-week TC/PC course per year, serving up to 10 students per class.
  • Maintain and report student training progress and evaluations.
  • Provide liaison support for simulator issues and coordinate with unit personnel, STARCOM, SSC, and vendors such as Sonalyst, L3 Harris, and WESS.
  • Operate and support simulator systems including SST, WTCS, TTS, and Wideband Thin Client.
  • Communicate courseware changes through instruction, email updates, briefings, and curriculum trackers.
  • Support updates to training standards by assisting with RTM, MTL, Ready Spacecrew Program (RSP), and Realistic Training Review Board (RTRB) inputs in coordination with higher headquarters.
  • Collaborate with team members, the Course Contractor Representative (CCR), and government SMEs to ensure training effectiveness.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  • Required: High School diploma.
  • Preferred: Completion of a recognized military instructor course.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Experience with SATCOM operations and MILSATCOM systems
  • Familiarity with USSF MILSATCOM command-and-control structures
  • Ability to collaborate respectfully and productively across team and organizational boundaries
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint)

Preferred:

  • Experience developing ISD-based courseware for Space Operations
  • Experience delivering platform instruction or hands-on training for weapon systems
  • Experience operating Wideband MILSATCOM systems
  • Proficiency in training simulator use and scenario execution

  • Organized and detail-oriented; capable of managing course loads and deliverables.

  • Ability to adapt instructional approaches to student performance and feedback.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to use a computer and related equipment for prolonged periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This is an Onsite position that requires work to be performed onsite at an Aleut location.
  • The working conditions for this position may include the following:
  • Working indoors in an office environment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Must be able to be cleared for base or site access.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Position may require up to 10% travel to CONUS government facilities for training support, exchange meetings, or collaboration.

Salary Range- $95K-$116K
