General Summary

Seeking part time instructor for UNIV 101L3: Intro to Student Success for incoming first year students at Eastern Michigan University. This course helps students adapt to expectations for college-level work, familiarizes them with resources on campus as well as beyond, and promotes a sense of belonging/community at EMU. Fall appointment only.


Course Description: The course provides incoming students with academic and personal success strategies to transition into the university life and EMU. The course is designed to assist students with becoming orientated with the EMU campus resources and facilities, developing essential academic skills and preparing for career development.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The primary professional responsibility of the Employee is teaching. Employees are expected to develop and maintain their professional skills in order to ensure high quality education for their students.

Teaching may include a number of particular obligations which employees are expected to fulfill, including but not limited to: meeting with students during and outside of assigned classes, assessing student work and performance, preparing syllabi and course materials, providing copies of syllabi and course materials to their supervisor on request, and assigning and submitting grades in accordance with established Eastern Michigan University schedules.

Perform related departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a minimum of MA in Higher Education Student Affairs,  Communication or related fields. 

The candidate should demonstrate an ability to mentor students.

They should have at least two years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Past or present work with first generation students.

Commitment to promoting community, effective collaboration and intellectual curiosity with students.
