About the Role

Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies. Were looking for a Staff Systems Engineer, QA to establish a hybrid QA Center of Excellence (CoE) on our Systems Engineering team. In this role, you will drive quality standards, build and automate test practices, and implement observability measures across core platforms such as Salesforce, NetSuite, Coupa, Workday, and Zendesk.

This position will sit at the crossroads of software engineering, systems integration, and quality assurance, ensuring our internal systems are robust, reliable, and primed for scalability. You will partner closely with our Systems Engineering teams, IT, Security, and business stakeholders, to define testing processes and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

By stepping into this role, youll be at the forefront of driving quality, reliability, and observability across Fivetrans internal systems, setting the stage for scalable growth and innovation.

This is a full-time position based out of our Novi Sad, Serbia office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.


Technologies Youll Use

  • As our first internal systems QA hire, youll identify and implement the best QA automation tools and frameworks for our systems and use cases. Our core systems are Salesforce, Netsuite, Coupa, Workday, and Zendesk. Working knowledge of one of these, preferably Salesforce, with a desire to keep learning, is necessary.
  • Youll also collaborate with teams leveraging Grafana for observability and dashboards, integrate with Fivetran data pipelines, and interface with enterprise systems like Salesforce, NetSuite, and Workday. 

A software engineering background is strongly preferred, with proficiency in API testing, integration testing, and monitoring/alerting solutions. Help us bring established software engineering practices to internal systems!

What Youll Do

QA Center of Excellence

  • Establish and lead a hybrid CoE framework for QA that both centralizes best practices and empowers individual teams to own their testing strategies.
  • Define and enforce standards, guidelines, and governance for test planning, execution, and reporting across various internal systems.

Test Automation & Quality Strategy

  • Develop and maintain automated test suites covering functional, integration, and regression testing for business-critical internal systems.
  • Introduce tools and practices that streamline QA, such as automated test frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and code quality metrics.
  • Identify gaps in current QA processes and implement strategies to address them, balancing rapid delivery with risk mitigation.

Observability & Monitoring

  • Collaborate with Systems teams to integrate monitoring and alerting into Grafana, ensuring proactive detection of production quality issues.
  • Create dashboards and alerts that provide end-to-end visibility into system performance and stability, minimizing downtime and improving incident response times.

Execution and Delivery

  • Work with Systems Engineering teams to plan and execute test cycles aligned with release schedules, ensuring that changes are properly validated before and after deployment.
  • Oversee post-deployment monitoring to verify stability, and lead root cause analysis on any production issues related to quality or integrations.

Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Engineering, IT, Security, Finance, HR, etc.) to align on testing requirements, priorities, and timelines.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, translating complex technical details into actionable insights and recommendations.

Process Improvement and Innovation

  • Continuously evaluate emerging QA tools, frameworks, and methodologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of testing across the organization.
  • Champion a culture of quality, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and best practices.

Metrics and Analysis

  • Define and track key QA performance indicators (e.g., test coverage, defect leakage, incident response times) to communicate progress and inform data-driven decisions.
  • Provide regular reports and insights to leadership, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Skills Were Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in QA, Test Automation, or Software Engineering roles, with a focus on enterprise systems or integrations. 
  • Salesforce quality automation experience is a must!
  • Proven track record establishing or evolving QA functions within a hybrid model (centralized standards + embedded team execution).
  • Expert knowledge of test automation frameworks (e.g., Cypress, Selenium, PyTest, Jest) and continuous integration pipelines.
  • Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Experience with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus) and creating dashboards/alerts for system health and performance monitoring.
  • Ability to balance short-term tactical needs with long-term strategic vision, driving organizational best practices around quality.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of aligning diverse teams on testing strategies and priorities.

Bonus Skills

  • Familiarity with API-based integration testing and enterprise integration platforms (MuleSoft, Workato, Celigo, etc.).
  • Experience working with data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and SQL for data validation or monitoring.
  • Understanding of regulatory/compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, GDPR) that could impact internal systems QA processes.
  • Knowledge of security testing, including vulnerability scanning and penetration testing.
