Position Overview:

This position provides comprehensive training and a clear path for career progression within the Human Resources department.  As a key support to the Payroll and Compliance Manager, you will handle data entry and report management related to payroll and prevailing wage in public works jobs.  Through hands-on experience, you will develop expertise in payroll processes and labor compliance, positioning you to serve as a backup resource and eventually step into the compliance lead role. In addition, you'll gain exposure to core Human Resources functions such as PTO accrual management, FMLA, disability and 401(k) administration.  Participation in monthly Human Resources meetings offers a platform to engage with broader organizational goal and contribute your ideas. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow into a specialized and impactiful role in HR and compliance. 

 

Requirements

  • 2 years’ experience payroll, certified payroll or HRIS experience is a plus.
  • Associate degree in payroll, accounting, or related field (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Demonstrate daily organizational skils and proactive attitude
  • Strong organizational skills and a sharp eye for detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Must be available to work on-site at the Lake Forest branch office at least four days per week
  • Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and work independently.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with weekly timesheet audits to ensure all timesheets are correct.
  • Upload timesheet data to payroll and labor compliance portals.
  • Enter manual special pay (e.g., on-call, per diem, bonuses) into the payroll system weekly.
  • Generate payroll registers for manager review.
  • Download and electronically file reports to individual job folders weekly.
  • Maintain logs for payroll items and project compliance.
  • Email reports to customers as needed.
  • Manage DAS 140/142 reports for prevailing wage jobs.
  • Create and submit monthly payroll reports.
  • Assist employees and customers with questions.  
  • Provide backup support as needed to Payroll and Compensation Manager in all capacities.
