About the Role

Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.

Were looking for an Analytics Engineer to join our team focused on the Quickstart data model producta suite of open-source dbt packages that help customers jumpstart their analytics by providing high-quality, opinionated data models out of the box.

In this role, youll contribute to the development of new features for our existing Quickstart data models, help maintain and improve them through bug triage and resolution, and support the creation of new models that expand our coverage. Youll collaborate closely with other analytics engineers, data analysts, and stakeholders to understand common analytics use cases and translate them into clean, well-documented dbt code. This is a great opportunity to deepen your experience with dbt, data modeling, and open-source development, while working on a product that directly helps other analytics teams move faster.

This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our Oakland, CA office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.

What Youll Do

  • Participate in the triage, investigation, and resolution of bugs or issues reported by users of our dbt packages.
  • Collaborate with other Analytics Engineers and cross-functional partners to share learnings, align on technical patterns, and improve our products over time.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Fivetran source schemas, table relationships, and how they map to common analytics use cases.
  • Build and maintain external-facing dbt packages and analytics models that help customers get immediate value from their Fivetran data pipelines.
  • Collaborate with customers through feedback sessions to better understand their goals, pain points, and how our data models can help them move faster.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and reliable SQL queries, and BI templates that meet our standards for quality and maintainability.
  • Conduct independent research to understand source systems, industry use cases, and best practices when working on new or unfamiliar projects.

Skills Were Looking For

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset and eagerness to work cross-functionally with product managers, data analysts, engineers, and customers.
  • Highly resourceful and self-motivated. Youre comfortable navigating ambiguity, proactively unblocking yourself, and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A genuine passion for data and analytics, with curiosity about how data is used to drive business decisions.
  • Hands-on experience using dbt.
  • Proficiency in writing intermediate SQL. You can confidently write joins, CTEs, window functions, and optimize queries for readability and performance.
  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Sigma) and/or cloud data warehouses like BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience contributing to or consuming open-source dbt packages.
  • Familiarity with Python.

$131,664.05—$158,003.18 USD
