Job Title: Tactical SATCOM Operator
Job Location: McChord, Washington
ResponsibilitiesThe Tactical SATCOM Operator position shall be responsible for:
- Knowledge of tactical and commercial satellite communication equipment.
- Operation of Satellite Modems, associated cables, and interconnects; Low Noise Block (LNB); Intermediate Frequency (IF) cable and connections; Antenna, Antenna motors, Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA), Antenna Control Unit (ACU), and associated cabling and interconnects; Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS); Generator (if applicable).
- Knowledge of how to use Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) equipment; power meter, spectrum analyzer, firebird, or voltmeter.
- Understanding of LAN/WAN communications, network hardware such as Cisco routers, Ethernet switches, bridges, gateways and firewalls.
- Understanding of routing protocols such as Routing Information Protocol (RIP), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF).
- Experience with technologies like Multi-Schedule Private Line Service Tariffs (MPLS), Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), MLA Virtual Private Network (VPNs).
- Experience with Wireless, Riverbed, and Call Manager Express.
- Install, repair, and maintain Tactical VSATs to include, but not limited to, installation and maintenance of fiber optic cabling, into buildings and manholes. Install, terminate, test and repair CAT5E/6 cable infrastructure to include patch panels, cables, racks, cabinets, etc.
- Configure and have a working knowledge of Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) network or Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) network configurations.
- Configure and integrate Communications Security (COMSEC) equipment (e.g., KG -175D, KG-175 Classic, KG-250X, and KG-175E) into all tactical SATCOM systems.
- Provide training on tactical SATCOM equipment when required.
- Must be able to submit a Satellite Access Request / Gateway Access Request (SAR/GAR).
- Able to travel CONUS/OCONUS to support the mission 25% or more.
Qualifications- An Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret Clearance.
- Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.
- Four (4) years of experience in support of installations, repair, troubleshooting or maintenance of communications electronic systems or equipment.
- Four (4) years of experience operating in a tactical environment operating/maintaining antenna controllers, SSPA, LNB, Fiber optic/Coax/Ethernet Cable, Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) modems (satellite modems).
- Experience with commercial and military satellite acquisition procedures and commercial TDMA/DAMA modems.
Education:- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferred or 4 - 6 years military experience in related field with advanced commercial certification instead of education.
