Full-time with benefits; 80 hours per 2-week pay period, primarily working day shift 6a-430p Mon-Wed and Fri; Includes an on-call weekend rotation where call starts 7a Sat thru 6a Mon; also includes a holiday rotation.

JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Tech is responsible for establishing the highest standards possible of preventive maintenance for the care and welfare of patients, visitors and employees of the hospital.  Maintenance Tech will be required to repair, maintain, inspect and operate boilers, HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, electrical systems, refrigeration systems, applicable medical and non-medical equipment, communication systems, and elevator systems/equipment.  This position involves repairs to buildings, remodeling, roof repair, carpentry, all types of preventive maintenance work and repair work as directed.  Maintenance also involves grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming and snow and ice removal.  Additional duties include on-call responsibilities, taking emergency calls and requests, running errands, handling shipping and receiving, delivering hospital supplies, heavy-duty floor cleaning, and assisting with general housekeeping duties. 

 

MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

  1. Inspects, tests and adjusts repairs of all physical plant machinery, heating, cooling, piping and electrical systems and records maintenance in accordance with schedules.
  2. Oversees maintenance of all physical plant machinery and equipment.
  3. Replaces, repairs and calibrates HVAC components and replaces filters.
  4. Participates in construction and repairs to building structures, walls, floor, ceilings, cabinets and furniture.
  5. Inspects, tests, cleans and may repair fire equipment, alarms, switches and sensors.
  6. Inspects and adjusts authorizes repairs on miscellaneous hospital equipment including beds, autoclaves, centrifuges and kitchen equipment.
  7. Oversees removal of ice and snow from walkways, roads and parking lot during winter months.  Performs grounds maintenance including mowing and trimming lawns and planting and trimming shrubs.
  8. Inventories and orders medical gases.
  9. Works alone or with others to move furniture, equipment or supplies as needed.
  10. Responds promptly to requests for service such as equipment repair tags, phone calls, work orders, supervisor requests, departmental logbooks, etc.
  11. Assesses and prioritizes requests to determine necessary action and follows up to obtain materials necessary to complete each request.
  12. Documents completion of requests as appropriate and maintains record of all inspection tests and repairs.
  13. Reports items and/or areas in need of cleaning, painting or repair to Facilities Director.
  14. Assumes responsibility for safe operation and condition of tools and equipment.  Uses equipment and supplies in an efficient and cost-effective manner.  Maintains clean, orderly department and/or work area.
  15. Responds to all fire and disaster alarms according to disaster manual.
  16. Follows safety guidelines related to body mechanics, hazardous materials, protective devices, etc.
  17. Participates in staff meetings and appropriate inservices.
  18. Orients new staff to the units/department as assigned.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. High School diploma or equivalent required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  1. Must have knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing systems and HVAC systems.
  2. Must have the ability to understand and absorb new work methods.
  3. Must have basic computer knowledge and skills.
  4. Excellent verbal communication skills.
  5. Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
  6. Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress and with minimal supervision.
  7. Three to four year’s experience in the above mentioned systems and equipment preferred.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Regularly required to use hands to handle or feel objects.
  2. The Maintenance Tech is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  3. The Maintenance Tech must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and able to occasionally move objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
  4. Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  5. Visual acuity is needed in order to perform essential functions of the position.
  6. Basic reading and writing skills are needed in order to read and interpret instructions and to handle simple record keeping.
