Safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment along with other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Essential Duties:

  • Operate heavy earth-moving equipment such as dozers, excavators, loaders, mining trucks, scrapers, and more in all aspects of mining.
  • Perform proper equipment startup and shutdown procedures along with daily servicing of equipment.
  • Operate within acceptable range of design capabilities of the equipment aided by instrumentation gauges and indicators.
  • Perform all job duties following MSHA laws and regulations, established company safety policies, and state and federal environmental regulations in a safe and efficient manner consistent with North American Mining standards.
  • Practice defensive driving and operating at all times.

Other duties:

  • Work with other equipment operators in a safe and organized manner and within established traffic plans.
  • Assist in water management, construction, labor and maintenance activities as is necessary.
  • Perform utility work and operate utility equipment.
  • Assist the maintenance department with routine repairs.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of any potential problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must understand basic mechanical workings of heavy equipment to assess condition and prevent damage.
  • Operate equipment properly within tolerances.
  • Assist with the performance of preventative maintenance and servicing on occasion.
  • Ability to work with GPS units in the equipment.
  • Knowledge and ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe and adverse conditions and the knowledge to correct or report them.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts up to 12 hours per shift, night shifts, and weekends.

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma or GED. Relevant experience may replace.
  • Two years of experience operating heavy off-road construction equipment is a plus.
