Research Specialist
The University of Pittsburgh, Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences Biological Sciences Department, is seeking a Research Specialist in the Hatfull Lab. The Research Specialist will perform advanced experiments in a microbiology laboratory that are aimed at understanding bacteriophages and their infection of Mycobacterium hosts. Primary research responsibilities will include investigating, isolating, and characterizing bacteriophages to various bacterial strains including Mycobacterium with a focus on phage/host interactions from clinical isolates of Mycobacterium abscesssus, and exploring the determinants of infection. Supervisory and training responsibilities for student researchers.

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Aseptic technique and microbiology skills; math and analytical skills; bioinformatic analysis skills; Requires microbiological techniques and skills in pipetting liquid solutions.
Position will require standing 75% of the day.
