Job Description
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for dispatching, inventory management, freight optimization, load shifting, and managing common carrier performance within the Transportation Division. This position works extensively with both internal departments across the Colonial family of companies and external partners.
This is a fast-paced role requiring quick thinking, adaptability, follow-through, and strong communication skills. The Logistics Coordinator is expected to embody Colonial’s core values of Integrity, Service, Entrepreneurship, and Family.
Manage customers’ inventory levels by analyzing sales trends to determine reorder points.
Understand and optimize asset utilization for full load opportunities.
Facilitate order processing, including order creation, dispatching, and tracking.
Monitor product supply availability across multiple regions.
Execute real-time supply sourcing and purchasing decisions using a list of primary, secondary, and alternate terminals.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure adequate inventory and fulfillment.
Monitor driver execution to ensure it meets Colonial’s operational standards.
Confirm deliveries are completed within required timelines.
Make real-time decisions regarding driver and asset availability.
Coordinate with Fleet Maintenance on inspections, routine maintenance, and repairs.
Maintain accurate and organized data within department software systems.
Communicate thoroughly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Understand and adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and hours-of-service rules.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in terminal dispatch, logistics, or customer service preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and web-based applications.
Availability for on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in solving operational challenges.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a team.
Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk.
May occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
