Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include teaching 24 credit hours over the academic year at the undergraduate level of French, creating and supervising academic opportunities for students beyond the classroom, and contributing to the department and the College through service. Teaching will include 4-credit-hour courses at the introductory level and 3-credit-hour courses at the intermediate and advanced undergraduate levels. We particularly welcome candidates who demonstrate the potential for excellent undergraduate teaching; a desire to be an active citizen in our department and College; willingness to engage students outside the classroom in activities such as undergraduate research, service projects, and cultural activities; and readiness to develop or implement pedagogies that promote the learning of students of all backgrounds.
Qualifications:
A PhD. in French or closely related field from an accredited college/university is required. ABDs are welcome to apply at the rank of Visiting Instructor. Candidates must demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in French and English and excellence in teaching. College teaching experience is strongly desired, as is a commitment to teaching innovative courses in French.
Research specialization is open, but preferred qualifications include ability to teach one of the following courses: French Civilization, Survey of French Literature, History of French Cinema, or French and Medicine: Literature and Practice.
