Tenured Professor of Computational Geosciences

in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science

The Department of Geology and Environmental Science (https://geology.pitt.edu/) at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenured Professor in Computational Geosciences. The Department seeks to hire a candidate with expertise in modeling the physical processes that govern multiphase flow in aquifers and conventional/unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs (e.g., shale) using analytical and/or numerical approaches. We seek a colleague with expertise in modeling who can apply that skillset to diverse problems in Geology & Environmental Science, including but not limited to multi-phase flow in petroleum or groundwater reservoirs, CO2 sequestration in saline aquifers, groundwater remediation, and the production of shale oil and gas. Our goal is to hire a colleague who uses a combination of quantitative measurements, data-driven modeling, or remote sensing to solve problems in Geology & Environmental Science. Knowledge of deep/machine learning to apply large datasets to geological and environmental problems is also desired.

The successful candidate will complement existing research clusters and establish an externally funded, internationally recognized research program that complements existing strengths in the Department. Strong collaborative opportunities exist across the University, including the nationally awarded Pittsburgh Water Collaboratory, the Climate and Global Change Center, the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation, and the emerging Pitt Space Initiative. Teaching duties include undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
