As a Cloud Architect professional at Metric5 you will assist the Army with developing and maintaining a defensive cyberspace capability. The candidate must be able to make recommendations and provide advice on information systems architecture; networking; automation; communications protocols; risk management framework; cloud computing, software development methodologies; and testing. The candidate must be able to plan all aspects of cloud architecture to include integration of all hardware, software, and network components with efforts focused on Interoperability, System Performance, Cyber, Application Security, Reliability/Availability/Maintainability (RAM) for a globally connected Army that offers Soldiers, Commanders and supporting organizations the ability to access, process and act upon information anytime, anywhere across DODIN.

Program:

The project you will be working is to support a DoD U.S. Army command with Cloud Architect support. You will work directly with the stakeholders to support their requirements.

Skills & Requirements

What we'd like to see...

Technical Skills:

  • Networking: Understanding of networking concepts like VPCs, subnets, routing, DNS, firewalls (Security Groups, NACLs), and load balancing. Need to be able to design and implement network architectures for various applications.
  • Operating Systems: Familiarity with Linux (especially Amazon Linux and Red Hat) and Windows Server, including system administration, shell scripting, and command-line tools.
  • Security Best Practices: A deep understanding of security principles and how to implement them in the cloud, including IAM roles and policies, encryption, security auditing, and incident response.
  • Databases: Experience with relational databases (like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (like DynamoDB, MongoDB) including database design, administration, and performance tuning.
  • Programming/Scripting: Proficiency in at least one scripting language like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation and infrastructure-as-code. Knowledge of other languages like Java, Node.js, or .NET can be beneficial depending on the role.
  • AWS Specific Skills: Deep understanding of core AWS services like EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, EKS, Glacier, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, and Lambda
  • Well-Architected Framework: Familiarity with the AWS Well-Architected Framework and its five pillars (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, and Cost Optimization) to design and build well-architected solutions.

Soft Skills & Other Important Qualities:

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills to collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Documentation: Ability to create clear and concise documentation for infrastructure and processes. Using Visio (or similar) to create boundary and data flow diagrams. Ability to create concise, relevant technical briefings for senior leaders.
  • Automation Mindset: A focus on automating repetitive tasks and infrastructure deployments.
  • Architecture Design: Experience in development of functional and physical architectures
  • Full Software Development Lifecycle: Experience in DevSecOPs and continuous integration from requirements to operations.
  • Risk Management and DoD Authorization: Familiarity with the Software Accreditation process for DoD including Control Families, Stigs, ATO, Vulnerability Scans and the RMF process.
  • Continuous Learning: AWS is constantly evolving, so a commitment to continuous learning and staying up-to-date with new services and best practices is essential.
  • Collaboration: Working effectively within a team and with other departments.

Desired Skills:

  • DoD Experience
  • Knowledge and experience with Army protocol
  • Cloud certifications

Years of Experience: 8+ years of experience or more

Travel: Up to 10% travel

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required, and at least a DoD Secret Level Clearance

Annual Salary: $150,000 - $175,000
