Position Summary:
The Researcher will work both independently and collaboratively under the guidance of the Director and Associate Director of Institutional Research and Studies. The primary role of this position is to support the University's strategic planning and decision-making processes by designing, conducting, and analyzing complex research studies. The Researcher will conceptualize and execute specialized projects, including longitudinal and cross-sectional studies, and will contribute to the continuous development and refinement of institutional data resources.
What You'll Be Doing:

  • Specialized Research Design and Execution
    • Conceptualize, plan, and conduct specialized institutional research projects, including longitudinal studies and research data development.
    • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of research studies, from problem definition and methodology selection to data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
    • Maintain high standards of data integrity, validity, and confidentiality in all phases of research.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Perform statistical analyses using tools such as SPSS, R, SAS, Python, or equivalent.
    • Prepare clear and accurate reports, data visualizations, dashboards, and executive summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Develop and maintain documentation and metadata related to research activities and data sources.
  • Information Systems Development
    • Collaborate with administrative and technical staff to define and document specifications for new or enhanced information systems.
    • Provide input on the design of data models and reporting solutions that support institutional effectiveness and decision-making.
  • Data Collaboration and Exchange
    • Facilitate the exchange of data between institutional offices and with external agencies in compliance with regulatory and policy requirements.
    • Participate in interdepartmental working groups and committees related to institutional research and assessment.
  • Other Duties
    • Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Director and/or Associate Director.
    • Stay current on best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory changes in institutional research and higher education.


Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in any field (degree in computer science, social sciences, or math/statistics preferred)
  • At least 1 year of demonstrated experience conceiving, designing, and conducting research using numerical analytic techniques, and to prepare reports resulting from such investigations.
  • Familiarity with higher education and government reporting preferred.
  • Knowledge of human resource and/or financial information systems and how to access and organize stored data to disseminate information.
  • Ability to access information using programming languages such as SQL and/or SPSS.
  • Significant knowledge and experience with spreadsheet, graphic, and word processing applications.
  • Experience with the use and manipulation of large-scale, complex databases and Business Analytics software such as Power BI preferred.
  • Knowledge of SIUE mission, academic programs and organizational structure.
  • Ability to work in cooperation with others on common projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • High degree of tact and confidentiality required as this position has access/use of confidential student and employee information, including salary, benefit and ID data.
