This position offers the unique opportunity to lead the engineering and integration of scalable, mission-critical LMS solutions that deliver interactive training content to U.S. Navy Sailors in both classroom and deployed environments.
You’ll join a high-impact, cross-functional team at the intersection of training systems and tactical readiness—leading the design, deployment, and support of advanced learning platforms that enhance sailor proficiency, system understanding, and fleet mission effectiveness.
Job Description:
As the Lead LMS Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority for designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining content-rich learning platforms, primarily centered around Moodle. You’ll lead the effort to deliver web-based training modules, simulations, assessments, and multimedia elements tailored for secure environments and tactical systems.
You will work closely with software developers, instructional designers, Navy stakeholders, and integrators to ensure technical excellence, cybersecurity compliance, and seamless user experience across all delivered training systems.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead the development, configuration, and deployment of Moodle LMS packages for delivery on U.S. Navy tactical systems.
Architect and implement scalable LMS solutions, supporting SCORM/xAPI content, quizzes, simulations, and multimedia modules.
Develop and maintain Linux-based scripting and packaging tools to ensure proper content integration and delivery.
Collaborate with instructional designers to convert legacy content into interactive, standards-compliant formats (SCORM/xAPI).
Ensure compatibility, performance, and cybersecurity compliance of LMS deployments in disconnected and secure environments.
Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting for LMS installation events and fleet-wide deployments.
Engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders using Agile principles and tools such as Jira.
Support ILS integration and documentation procedures, including versioning and configuration management workflows.
Required Experience, Skills, and Education:
8+ years of experience in software development, instructional system integration, or LMS administration—preferably in DoD or Navy programs.
Proven experience as a technical lead or senior developer for Moodle LMS deployments and customization.
Strong skills in HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3 for web-based content and LMS enhancement.
Experience developing SCORM/xAPI-compliant content and LMS plugins or integrations.
Familiarity with Linux environments and scripting tools for software packaging and deployment.
Solid understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile methodologies, and issue tracking (e.g., Jira).
Ability to lead complex integration efforts in high-security or disconnected network environments.
CompTIA Security+ CE certification and Active DoD Secret Clearance required.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education:
Experience supporting AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 sonar system training or related Navy tactical training programs.
Familiarity with content development tools like Adobe Captivate, Premiere, and Animate.
Experience with Navy Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) tools, IETMs, and technical documentation platforms such as PTC Windchill and Arbortext.
Understanding of STIG compliance, cybersecurity policy, and Navy IT environments.
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Prior experience coordinating with Navy stakeholders during shipboard installs, training validations, or fleet support events.
