We are seeking a dynamic and technically experienced Group Engineering Manager to lead our Controls & Automation engineering team with a strong focus on BMS (Building Management Systems), EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring Systems), and PLC/HMI/SCADA programming. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-performance automation solutions for data centers and other mission-critical facilities, ensuring engineering excellence, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

You will manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of controls engineers and programmers, provide strategic direction on project execution, and collaborate cross-functionally to scale automation solutions across a growing portfolio of complex projects.

Remote role, but MUST be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Huntsville, AL, Tulsa, OK, or West-Central TX.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical and Team Leadership
    Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team focused on the design, development, and commissioning of controls systems. Foster a culture of technical rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Engineering Strategy & Standards Development
    Define and enforce engineering best practices, design standards, and programming methodologies across all controls projects. Ensure consistency, quality, and scalability of solutions across global project deployments.
  • Project Oversight & Execution Support
    Oversee the successful execution of automation projects, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget. Provide high-level technical input on system architectures, control strategies, and integration requirements.
  • Design & Programming Governance
    Review and approve critical project deliverables, including sequence of operations (SOOs), control panel designs, network diagrams, and PLC/HMI/SCADA programs. Support risk mitigation through technical audits and design reviews.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement
    Act as a senior technical liaison to key clients and partners. Translate client requirements into engineering strategies and ensure projects meet or exceed expectations.
  • Team Development & Mentorship
    Mentor senior engineers and team leads, supporting career development and technical growth. Implement training programs to keep the team current with evolving technologies and tools.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    Work closely with project management, business development, procurement, and field operations teams to ensure engineering alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline (Masters preferred)
  • DNA comprised of collaboration and teamwork
  • 10+ years of experience in controls and automation engineering, including:
    • Extensive experience in BMS/EPMS design and integration
    • PLC/HMI/SCADA programming across platforms like Rockwell, Siemens, Tridium, Ignition, or Schneider
  • 5+ years in a technical leadership or engineering management role
  • Strong background in data center, mission-critical, or industrial automation projects
  • Deep understanding of system integration, field commissioning, and controls network infrastructure
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, OPC, SNMP)
  • Proven experience managing cross-functional technical teams and mentoring engineers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing or implementing design automation frameworks or reusable code libraries
  • Familiarity with MEP and electrical one-line coordination
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity considerations in industrial control system (ICS) environments
  • Certifications such as PMP, PE, Niagara 4, or Ignition
  • Experience in a Design-Build or EPC project environment
  • Willingness to travel as needed (up to 25%) for team or project oversight

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, lift 50 lbs., and navigate stairs and fixed ladders multiple times.
