Function of Position:

The Career Peer Advisor (CPA) will assist students and alumni in accessing career resources, promote campus awareness of career development programs, and support the Career Services team in various administrative and outreach activities.

This is a Federal Work Study position. Eligible applicants MUST have received prior approval from the Financial Aid Office. If you are unsure of your eligibility, please contact Financial Aid before applying.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Peer Support:

  • Assist students in the Career Library with the use of digital tools, online resources, and printed materials for job search and career planning.
  • Greet visitors/students/alumni/faculty/staff and respond to questions about the Career Library and Career Services.
  • Help students locate and utilize available resources.
  • Encourage student participation in career development activities and events such as job fairs, information tables, workshops, and other events.
  • Increase student awareness of career programs and services.
  • Promote the use of online resources and the Career Services website.
  • Direct students to appropriate resources and services as needed.
  • Marketing/Outreach:
  • Assist in publicizing and marketing career programs (flyers/easels).
  • Assist staff with the setup of workshops and develop and create bulletin boards.
  • Additional Career Resource Center Responsibilities:
  • Catalog and maintain materials/handouts in the Career Library and for the Career Services office.
  • Update career and employer files.
  • Training Sessions:
  • Participate in Career Peer Advisor training and meetings.
  • Attend designated career workshops and programs.
  • Projects:
  • Engage in various projects throughout the semester such as creating job fair packets, assisting with employer mailings, handing out directories at fairs, etc.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be Federal Work Study eligible (you can confirm your eligibility with a Financial Aid representative)
  • Willing to commit to a full year (2 semesters).
  • Administrative, communication, media, or graphic design skills.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and diligent worker.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after appropriate training.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with others.


Additional Information:

Pay Rate: $15.50/hour
Hours per week: 10 hours/week, in a minimum of two-hour time blocks
