POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Serves as an entry-level engineer alongside other engineers and scientists. These teams are responsible for designing High Energy Laser (HEL) components, performing optical analyses, and planning and conducting tests of high energy laser systems and precision beam control systems. Efforts involve complex optical systems (fast steering mirrors), auto-alignment systems, HEL diagnostic instrumentation, data analysis, and beam control systems. Innovative work in advanced HEL technical areas is performed. For this position, the incumbent will be exposed to multi-disciplinary efforts across the spectrum of optics, mechanical, electrical/electronics, physics, and computer control as applied to high energy laser systems. Work under the general direction and guidance of a project engineer who will review conformance to project objectives.
Must have acquired a minimum of 60 semester credit hours (Junior or higher status) in Optical Engineering from an accredited college or university. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Windows, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
A valid driver’s license is required. Applicant selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Desired Qualifications:
Computer programming experience with MatLAB, Java & Python. Hands-on experience with CAD tools. Extensive knowledge of design principles and 3-D modeling, analysis, design and drawing software. Hands-on experience with design, fabrication, analysis and assembly of optical systems. Experience with mechanical control systems and associated computer control software.
