Position Summary:
The access counselor will help facilitate accommodations for students with various types of disabilities. This includes conducting intake sessions, documentation analysis, and determining reasonable and appropriate accommodations for the classroom setting and beyond. They will also make appropriate university and community referrals as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Facilitate accommodations for students with various types of disabilities
- Conduct intake sessions, documentation analysis, and determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations
- Work with students and faculty to successfully implement accommodations and address accommodation concerns
- Conduct follow-up services when needed to ensure student access and support
- Outreach programming
- Provide community and campus referrals when needed
- Participate in staff meetings and training when required
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Access and Accommodation Services office and serve as a resource for the campus community
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other relevant disability law
Assessment of functional limitations due to disability and facilitating appropriate accommodations
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Effective interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills are required
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information and academic integrity.
General Days/Hours: Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a B.A. in social work, psychology, or a similar degree (master's in counseling, social work, or similar degree preferred)
Preferred one year of experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.
Preferred certification or licensure in mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling, social work, or a similar field
Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding disabilities and higher education
