We are currently looking for a Sand and Manganese Steel Lab Technician to join our team in Decatur, IL.   

PURPOSE OF POSITION  

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Sand and Manganese Steel Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the operations of the no-bake system, green sand system, and manganese steel laboratory. This role involves conducting laboratory tests, preparing samples as needed, and maintaining accurate documentation of all tests performed

Task and Responsibilities: 

• No-bake sand testing including grain fineness, loss on ignition, traverse rupture strength, pH and acid demand value.
• Green sand testing including active clay, compatibility, moisture and permeability. 
• Bench life and strip time testing. 
• Mold wash testing including Baume and weight per gallon. 
• Preparation of manganese steel samples for microstructure evaluation. 
• Adhere to Nortrak’s Environmental, Safety and Quality Procedures, Practices and Policies.

Physical Demands:

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or climbing.
• Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
• Regularly lift and move up to 10-15 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 70 pounds. 
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Hearing abilities related to job assigned.

Job Requirements (e.g. education, experience, skills and desired competencies)

• High School graduate or GED preferred.
• Forklift and Crane certification preferred.
• Ability to read work orders, ITP’s, blue prints, rulers and tape measures. 
• Basic mathematical calculation experience in adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
