Library Access Services supports the educational, research, and service programs of the University by facilitating access to resources within and beyond the Library. Access Services includes the following units: Circulation, Course Reserves, Resource Sharing, and Technology Support.
Position Summary
The Portland State University Library seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative Assistant Manager of Access Services and Library Technology to join the dynamic campus community of Oregon’s most affordable and diverse public research university.

The Assistant Manager of Access Services and Library Technology is the leader of and an active participant in the day-to-day operations of the Library Technology Support Team. They direct their team’s technology purchasing and documentation, computing lab and study room management, and provision of computer hardware and software support to Library patrons and employees.

The Assistant Manager coordinates staff and student employee responses to the Technology Support Team’s ticketing system, responding to requests for assistance when necessary. They lead long- and short-term technology projects and planning in collaboration with the Access Services Manager, Library Administration, and key Library and campus stakeholders.

As part of the Access Services unit, the Assistant Manager covers shifts at the Circulation Desk, ensuring staff and student employees provide excellent customer service. They assist Library patrons and employees with circulating equipment like laptops and device chargers, and with specialized library technology like book scanners, microform readers, and the Library’s wide-format printer.

The Assistant Manager of Access Services and Library Technology is an unclassified, unrepresented, unranked position reporting to the Access Services Manager at the Portland State University Library. This position directly supervises two classified staff and 2-5 student employees.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree plus three years of current (within last 5 years) experience in a library or education environment
  • Recent work experience in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Experience in an academic library environment
  • Advanced proficiency in multiple library-specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repositories; content management systems.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service in a library and/or technology support environment
  • Experience providing advanced desktop support, and with using imaging and configuration management tools for MacOS and Windows platforms
  • Ability to lead and manage technology implementations

Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity. The starting annual salary for this position will be $67,000 but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. An excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
