Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance & Student Athlete Services
The Assistant Athletic Director-- Compliance is a key member of the athletics department administration. Responsibilities include NCAA Compliance, Student Athlete Academic Success, Scholarship Budget, Designated NCAA sport oversight and game day management as assigned. Must work closely with the AVPSAA, Athletic Director, the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), coaches, and other university staff. The Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services: Monitors all aspects of the NCAA compliance program by educating coaches, staff, and student-athletes on rules and changes in NCAA legislation; Serves as chair on the university compliance committee; manages all aspects of compliance through the use of Compliance Assistant (CA), ARMS, and Teamworks; monitoring the eligibility status of incoming, returning, and transfer student-athletes; documenting all recruiting activities, including contacts and official/unofficial visits, and practice and competition activities; maintaining squad lists; scholarship tracking with equivalencies and generating Grant in Aid forms, tracking and monitoring all incoming and outgoing students, and submitting all required documentation to the NCAA and the PSAC Conference in a timely manner.
Monitors athletic scholarship budget and participates in decisions regarding the awarding or cancelling of athletics-related financial aid. Excellent knowledge of all current NCAA rules related to initial, transfer, and continuing eligibility of student-athletes, recruiting, playing and practice seasons, sports sponsorship requirements, financial aid, boosters and fund raising; Ensure academic eligibility for all student-athletes; identify at-risk and low-performing student-athletes and be prepared to design appropriate remedial plans for student-athletes and inform coaches of such cases; work effectively with faculty and provide appropriate travel, post-season, and mid-term evaluation information when necessary.
Works closely with the Director Campus Recreation and Student Athlete Success in communicating and supporting student-athlete academic success through the implementation and oversight of student-athlete academic services and programs; additional tasks include monitoring class schedules, midterm grades, and final grades to promote academic success and ensure continuing eligibility and student-athlete progress toward graduation.
Will have designated Sport Oversight as well as Game Day Management duties: Ensure student athlete, fan, and official safety. Provide a welcoming game environment. Works closely with building manager in ensuring facilities are set up and accessible to fans, officials, and visiting teams. Willing to assist if any issues arise and other duties as assigned.
Must work closely with coaches and other staff members to help foster an environment of NCAA compliance, as well as following all university and conference regulations.
Manages a comprehensive program to ensure compliance with all league regulations and policies. Contributes to the further development of compliance programs and policies.
NCAA Compliance - monitoring of the Athletic Dept for compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules.
Education - educating Athletic Department staff on all aspects of rules and regulations.
Reporting / Documenting - reports, tracks, and files all required documentation with the NCAA, PSAC, and Pitt Johnstown.
Oversight - monitors department budgets, scholarships, participation, and game-day management.
Must fulfill duties of Athletics Compliance and Student-Athlete Services. Must be able to move about the Sports Center and different Athletic facilities both on and off campus for events.
