Description:

ATA Services, Inc. is currently seeking to hire a Language Services Coordinator to work on a temporary assignment. This is a part time remote position.

  • Pay Rate: $50.00 per hour with weekly pay.
  • Start Date: July 1, 2025
  • Schedule: 20-25 hrs/week, 6 months
  • Location: Remote
  • Assignment Length: July 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025

Scope of Work:
The Language Services Coordinator will support the Office of Community Engagement by leading efforts to expand and improve equitable access to language services across the New Mexico Department of Health. This contractor will manage the Qualified Medical Interpreter (QMI) Training Program by recruiting internal staff, coordinating training schedules, and serving as the primary point of contact for participants. The coordinator will provide technical assistance throughout the training process and evaluate outcomes to ensure alignment with national standards.

Additionally, the contractor will conduct a department-wide audit of language services to assess interpreter utilization, signage, and document translation efforts. This includes gathering and analyzing data related to language use across all program areas, identifying service gaps, and proposing improvements to strengthen meaningful access for Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. The audit will result in a report with actionable recommendations and a roadmap for sustainable improvements in communication equity. The coordinator will work closely with other contractors and programs, including Web Accessibility and Health Literacy, to ensure cohesive, inclusive communication strategies agency wide.

Key Responsibilities

1. Interpreter Training Program Coordination

  • Recruit potential participants for the Qualified Medical Interpreter Training program from within the agency workforce.
  • Conduct outreach and develop internal communications to promote the program.
  • Coordinate training logistics: determine class schedules based on staff/student availability, manage enrollment, and track participation.
  • Maintain inventory and distribution of training materials and supplies.
  • Act as the main contact and support for participants.
  • Support program evaluation through surveys, interviews, and basic data analysis.
  • Create standard operating procedures for future coordinators.

2. Language Services Use & Needs Audit

  • Analyze current use of the Language Line and other interpretation services (e.g., by location, language, frequency).
  • Assess signage in public-facing areas for language inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Identify areas where language services are underutilized or absent.
  • Interview staff about language access challenges and practices.
  • Compile findings into a final report with data visualizations and actionable recommendations for improvements in language access, signage, and staff awareness.
  • Create standard operating procedures for future coordinators.

Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating programs, trainings, or community outreach
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively across diverse teams and with limited-English proficient populations
  • Comfort with spreadsheets, data tracking, and basic analysis
  • Experience writing reports, presentations, or SOPs
  • Cultural humility and familiarity with language access and equity concepts

Preferred

  • Bilingual or multilingual (especially Spanish, Vietnamese, Diné Bizaad, or Zuni)
  • Experience working in health, social service, or government settings
