Job Summary
This research assistant will aid Dr. Delvon T. Mattingly in the Department of Behavioral Science and Center for Health, Engagement, and Transformation in performing secondary data analysis and preparing manuscripts and grant proposals. Specific duties include conducting literature reviews; cleaning, managing, and harmonizing large epidemiological datasets; analyzing complex survey and longitudinal cohort data; preparing tables, figures, and reference lists; leading or contributing to research articles and conference presentations; and assisting with the development of grant proposals and research protocols. Since this position is not tied to a specific project, the research assistant will support a range of projects, papers, and initiatives related to social and substance use epidemiology. Areas of focus include tobacco and cannabis control and regulatory science; psychosocial, political, and structural determinants of health; psychiatric comorbidities of substance use and use disorders; cancer control and prevention, particularly tobacco-related cancers such as lung cancer, and health disparities, with special attention to race, ethnicity, and rurality. The successful candidate will have experience analyzing data, proficiency in SAS, Stata, R, SPSS, or a related statistical software program, and strong academic writing, communication, and organizational skills. Preference will be given to candidates who have first- or co-authored at least one peer-reviewed journal article and have experience presenting research at internal (e.g., University of Kentucky) or national external (e.g., American Public Health Association) scientific conferences. However, these qualifications are not required.
