The Office of Student Engagement exists to connect students with existing and emerging interests, establish new social connections, and support an authentic sense of belonging to their new community. The Office is comprised of Student Leadership Center (union building) management, Student Activities, Recreation and Club Sports, New Student Orientation, Parent Support and onboarding, Greek Life, Special Events, and Performing Arts.

As the Director of Student Engagement, you provide the leadership, supervision, management, and budgetary oversight of the activities, services, and operations for the Office of Student Engagement. You are responsible for developing and implementing a model for student engagement that fosters student connectedness to their new campus community leading to their growth and transformation. You prioritize students with experiential opportunities that are focused both in leadership and service. Your critical task of student onboarding is a core objective for the office and guides your work.

You demonstrate innovation, optimism, and are a capable communicator. You are highly organized, tech savvy, and able to interpret and process compliance-oriented tasks. You provide strategic leadership, lead by example, and thus foster a high performance culture of collaboration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Lead continuous assessment and improvement efforts to continually enhance student engagement
  • Design and implement practices that maintain the positive trajectory of 100+ student clubs and a growing percentage of students who belong to at least one student organization
  • Implement equitable hiring practices and lead ongoing training and professional development for the full-time, contractual, and student staff
  • Develop budget requests and provide responsible oversight for the department budget(s), ensuring resource alignment with departmental and institutional goals
  • Manage daily operations of student union facilities
  • Coordinate student event logistics
  • Implement training for student staff and event coordinators in customer service, risk management, and facility use
  • Leverage technology to streamline event scheduling, resource management, and communication
  • Develop metrics and conduct regular assessments to improve facility use, user satisfaction, and programming quality
  • Advise and mentor student leaders and organizations in areas of governance, program planning, and leadership development
  • Provide oversight and risk management support for our Greek Life system (currently 11 organizations)

Orientation:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise orientation leaders, emphasizing peer mentorship
  • Collaborate to deliver holistic and intentional onboarding
  • Design and implement Spring Orientation, July Orientation, Week of Welcome (WOW) and other first-year programs with measurable outcomes
  • Continually improve based on evolving NODA best practices

Recreation:

  • Lead the development of recreation, fitness, intramural, and club sports offerings
  • Promote health, wellness, and community through recreational programs
  • Implement risk management protocols and staff training to ensure participant safety
  • Partner with the department of Facilities Services to maintain and enhance spaces and equipment
  • Assess participation trends and satisfaction to guide strategic planning and future offerings

Performing Arts:

  • Support student-driven performing arts initiatives in drama, vocal, and instrumental music
  • Collaborate to create high-quality, educational arts experiences that broadly serve the student population
  • Oversee scheduling, marketing, and production support for performances and rehearsals


Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Supervisory experience
  • Past work experience in the fields of student, employee, or customer engagement, experience management (paid, part-time para-professional roles allowed)


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years working in the field of Student Engagement, Student Success, Student Unions, New Student Orientation
  • History of gradually increasing roles with corresponding scope of supervision
  • Experience in event management
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field


Additional Information:

The starting salary for this position is $77,346 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
