Sierra Donor Services Eye Bank (SDSEB) is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team member to join us to save lives!! Our mission at SDSEB is to save lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation, and we want professionals on our team that will embrace this important work!!  We are seeking candidates who have experience in the Eye Banking industry, are comfortable with aseptic technique, and have an eye for detail.  This position will focus on processing ocular tissue for transplant.

Sierra Donor Services Eye Bank is based out of Sacramento, California and is a member of the DCI Donor Services family. Employees are located in California, Tennessee, and Nevada.

Key responsibilities this position will perform include:   

  • Responsible for performing the timely and accurate processing, evaluation, and release of ocular tissues for their intended surgical applications. Prepares laboratory space for aseptic processing procedures. Performs aseptic preparation of corneal tissue for anterior and posterior lamellar procedures. Performs Ocular Processing Technician I & II aseptic processing as required. Aid in training Ocular Processing Technician I & II.
     
  • Successfully performs DMEK and pre-loaded DMEK processing, consistently achieving surgeon preferences for graft thicknesses and markings.
     
  • Capability to handle ocular distribution tasks, including offering tissues to surgeons, packaging and receiving ocular tissues and lab specimens, managing logistics, and any other distribution related functions.

  • Oversee and lead environmental monitoring, including the terminal cleaning of processing areas, while applying advanced aseptic techniques to sample various locations and maintaining accurate documentation practices.

  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance department and/or facilities maintenance staff to ensure ocular equipment is calibrated and serviced as required. Assist with the cleaning and monitoring of the ocular laboratory environments in accordance with DCIDS Policy & Procedure, EBAA Medical Standards, and FDA cGTP regulations.
     
  • Assists with R&D initiatives, process validation, and implementation of new procedures. Ensures quality control measures are maintained and participates in continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Achieve the designation of Medical Director Designee status for tissue evaluation and sign-off.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

The ideal candidate will have:   

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Three years’ experience in the Eye Banking industry; minimum six months processing ocular tissue for transplantation
  • CEBT preferred
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications to include Word and PowerPoint is required
