Nursing Program Assistant



In 2017, Pitt Greensburg became the first college in Westmoreland County to offer an accredited bachelor's of nursing degree by collaborating with the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Nursing is one of the largest majors of the Pitt Greensburg campus with enrollments of over 100 students annually. Nursing students attend a variety of clinical experiences at various health care systems within the region to prepare them for the NCLEX licensing exam and entry into nursing practice.


Job Summary

Performs various administrative and student services duties in support of a school. Facilitates human resources recruiting support for faculty, staff, and students; student registration; coordination of teaching schedules; and other related faculty and student services.


Essential Functions

The Nursing Program Assistant will serve as the first contact for the Pitt-Greensburg Nursing Program by providing advanced program/administrative support which includes:

  • performing general office duties as assigned, including documentation preparation, file management, data entry, scheduling, and supply ordering;
  • acting as a liaison between clinical placement sites and Pitt-Greensburg;
  • completing documents required by the clinical site facilities;
  • verifying and tracking mandatory clinical requirements for students/faculty, and attending affiliation meetings with clinical agencies throughout the year (the employee will be required to learn clinical agency specific software for completion of this work);
  • engaging with faculty to support the coordination of simulation and nursing skills lab activities, including acquiring and maintaining equipment and supplies, preparing documents and supplies required for instructional needs;
  • providing for the general cleanliness and security of the laboratory including appropriate disposal of hazardous materials;
  • ensuring the lab meets all OSHA standards and maintains appropriate documentation
  • providing administrative support/backup in the absence of other division administrative personnel in order to assist faculty, staff and students with time-sensitive requests.

The Nursing Program Assistant must:

  • possess a strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • have a willingness to learn software packages used within the university and nursing program;
  • be able to communicate effectively both in person and via the phone and internet;
  • complete work accurately and timely without errors;
  • have excellent organizational, computer, and multi-tasking skills;
  • have an understanding and be comfortable working in a busy environment with limited supervision.

The Nursing Program Assistant must be self-thinker, and be flexible and adaptable to different environments and situations to assist others in a professional, cooperative manner, and must be able to work well under pressure to meet strict University and state regulations and deadlines.

Accuracy of records is imperative; attention to detail is essential; confidentiality of all work is critical.

Prior experience in an office setting is essential.


Physical Effort

Position is primarily sedentary, however, some walking on campus to attend meetings and/or events is required. Some lifting under 25 lbs. may be
necessary.
