Ruppert Grows, LLC - Staff Accountant

Company and Position Description:

Ruppert Grows, LLC is a family office that currently provides business and investment management and strategic consulting, as well as tax coordination, financial reporting and special project assistance to the Ruppert family as well as several of the Ruppert operating businesses and entities, including Ruppert Landscape, Ruppert Properties, Ruppert Nurseries and the Ruppert Family Foundation.

We are hiring a staff accountant that can support the Director of Finance and Accounting in the areas of accounting, tax and finance. This person will report directly to the Director of Finance and Accounting, but will also provide support to both the President and Founder/CEO of Ruppert Grows as needed. The ideal candidate has a degree in accounting (or related field) and 3+ years of experience. A background in financial statement preparation, tax preparation, commercial real estate and/or or strategic investment management considered a plus.

Accounting Support:

• Experienced in month-end/year-end close, ensuring accurate financial reporting.

• Assistance in the month-end close process through account reconciliations, adjusting accruals, and reclassifying entries.

• Bank and investment reconciliations monthly - all entities.

• Monitor and coordinate cash flow for all entities.

• Compliance for all entities to include state reporting requirements, bank loan requirements, etc.

• Assistance with accounts payable including processing check requests and ensuring accurate general ledger accounting.

• Manage CAPEX jobs (to include budgeting, tracking spending, and preparing cost seg reports).

• Tracking and coordinating of all loans.

Tax:

• Assist with compiling financial reports for all entities.

• Coordinate with outside tax accounting firm to ensure accurate and timely filing of all extension, estimated, and final tax returns.

• Assist with tax planning.

• Calculate shareholder tax distributions as needed.

• Tracking of all tax transactions for all entities. Follow-up as needed.

• Receive and process all tax inquiries/notices/audits.

• Review and approve all draft tax returns for accuracy.

Other/special projects:

There are also many special projects requiring an interested and motivated individual to lead and/or assist, including but not limited to:

• Evaluate current bookkeeping and tax data technologies (Excel + Quickbooks) and review possible alternative technology implementation/coordinate implementation

• Evaluate current investment and wealth/asset data reporting (manual) and review alternative family office technologies for wealth/asset data aggregation and reporting (ex: Addepar, Aleta, Agilink, Arch, etc.).

• Assist in creation of financial statements and/or new financial reporting for Ruppert Grows and other family-owned entities/real estate LLC's.

• Review current LLC/entity structure for tax and administrative efficiency and coordinate implementation of revisions.

• Assist with special projects as needed from Founder/CEO (Ex. Evaluate commercial real estate opportunities for possible sales and/or acquisitions; evaluate private investment opportunities).

• IT - security and confidentiality concerns to review/make possible recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills.

• Strong PC and accounting software package experience required.

• Strong Excel experience required; strong PowerPoint and Adobe Pro experience a plus.

• Ability to self-direct, meet deadlines, manage and prioritize work.

• Desire to work in a small but high performing and evolving/growing team environment.

• Ability to balance a variety of both immediate/core function tasks and longer-term or unique projects and adapt as needed.

• College degree in accounting or related field; CPA candidate a plus.

Work Environment: This position is located in a professional office setting with a small, close-knit internal team that interfaces with a number of external advisors, vendors and clients. The office is located at 23601 Laytonsville Rd., Laytonsville, MD 20882. The Ruppert Grows office shares space with the corporate headquarters of Ruppert Landscape.

This is a full-time position that may require extra hours on occasion, but the work schedule may be flexible within normal business hours and based on the specific circumstances or needs of the candidate. A hybrid in-office and work-from-home arrangement may be considered.

Salary range is $65,000-$70,000, with final compensation commensurate with experience for the right candidate.
