Overview

Education Activities (Includes didactic, clinical, and mentoring activities):

Didactic Teaching: 

  • Provides effective classroom instruction based on teaching assignments, using appropriate instructional technologies to ensure that course outcomes are met. 
  • Participates collaboratively in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum. 

Clinical Teaching: 

  • Plans, supervises, and delivers effective clinical instruction in lab, simulation, and real-world healthcare settings, ensuring students apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations. 

Student Mentorship and Supervision: 

  • Mentors and advises students across academic and professional development areas. 
  • Faculty in the doctoral program supervise students in dissertation and/or clinical inquiry projects. 

Scholarly Activities (Research/writing, abstracts, grant-supported work, presentations, etc.):

  • Participates in scholarly activities based on faculty rank. 
    • At the Assistant Professor rank or higher, faculty in the practice mission, demonstrates competence in an area of clinical expertise and engages in inquiry and scholarship that contributes to the science of clinical practice. 
    • At the Assistant Professor rank or higher, faculty in the research mission advance a program of research, prepare grants and seek funding, and engage with other missions to foster inquiry within the SON.  

Service Activities:

  • These activities could include committee membership, professional activities, and other campus specific activities as assigned by the Program or Academic Director. 
  • Participates in faculty governance; additional strategic initiatives based on rank.  

Administrative Activities:

  • As negotiated.

Other Activities:

  • The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service. 


Responsibilities

Education and Experience (Degree dependent on academic program type and rank of position. Experience dependent on academic program type and rank of position):

 

Nurse Educator Associate 

Each Nurse Educator Associate must hold at least a baccalaureate degree in nursing with the equivalent of a minimum of two years of full-time patient care experience at the registered nurse level. 

  • Lecturer: BSN  
  • 2 years of full-time clinical practice experience required 

Nurse Educator 

Each Nurse Educator must hold at least a master's degree in nursing or a baccalaureate degree in nursing and master's or doctoral degree in a related field with relevant teaching and nursing experience related to the teaching assignment. They must also have the equivalent of a minimum of three years of full-time patient care experience at the registered nurse level; and, document competency in teaching through experience, educational preparation, or continuing education. 

  • Instructor: MSN or MN 
  • Assistant Professor: MSN, Ph.D./DNP  
  • 3 years of full-time clinical practice experience required 

 

Registrations, Certifications, and/or Licenses (Current licensure & certifications could be required depending on position and academic program.):

  • Oregon RN license 
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) 


Qualifications



  • Doctorate preferred. 
  • Teaching experience at the baccalaureate level or higher preferred.
