The Wargame Analyst delivers expert instruction and facilitation in both traditional and computer-based wargaming, supporting professional military education and operational planning. This role involves scenario development, event coordination, assessments, and briefings, with a focus on U.S. Marine Corps doctrine and warfighting concepts. The analyst collaborates with military personnel across ranks to ensure realistic, relevant, and analytically sound wargaming experiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide expert-level instruction in wargaming theory, educational wargaming techniques, and wargame facilitation for professional military education and training.
Design, develop, and deliver wargaming curriculum and training-related materials tailored to USMC warfighting concepts and doctrine.
Facilitate traditional board and computer-based wargames, ensuring alignment with training objectives and scenario realism.
Lead and participate in planning conferences, exercise design teams, and structured wargaming events, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Deliver high-quality briefs and presentations to senior military leaders and training audiences, articulating insights, findings, and recommendations with precision.
Conduct and support after-action reviews (AARs), capturing lessons learned and applying findings to improve future wargaming events.
Support the design and execution of wargaming assessments, data collection, and analysis to evaluate program effectiveness.
Maintain working knowledge of USMC structure, operational planning processes, and the Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP).
Provide individual and group instruction to diverse audiences, including senior officers and mid-grade enlisted personnel.
Exhibit strong attention to detail in scenario design, gameplay adjudication, and analysis documentation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in a related field such as military studies, history, national security, or operations research.
In place of a bachelor's degree, 20 years of military and/or wargaming experience may be considered.
A minimum of 15–20 years of experience in wargaming, military operations, wargaming design/execution, or related analysis roles.
CORE SKILLS / COMPETENCIES
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated expertise in both designing and facilitating educational wargames at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels.
Experience using a mix of traditional board wargames and modern digital/computer-based wargames in military training environments.
Familiarity with USMC customs, structure, and warfighting concepts, including Force Design 2030, MCDP 1 Warfighting, and other doctrinal publications.
Proven ability to brief and engage confidently with general officers, senior defense officials, and interagency stakeholders.
Skilled in writing detailed, analytic products at a level consistent with graduate education standards.
Ability to lead collaborative planning sessions and work across organizations to coordinate complex training events.
Experience with wargame assessment techniques and use of analytical tools to support evidence-based recommendations.
Comfortable instructing and interacting with all ranks, fostering learning across a range of military audiences.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus.
Qualification as an authorized company driver is required.
