POSITION LOCATION: Atlanta, GA, USA

ANTICIPATED START DATE: Two weeks after candidate identification

TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position


ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of Core Laboratory Services and Response (DCLSR), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA.


SCOPE OF WORK


The Laboratory Technician will provide support for non-research biological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform non-research biological science work or biological science support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
  • Perform recurring, well-precedented standard lab techniques. Performs and monitors the full range of specialized tests and non-routine procedures for which there are standard methods and techniques.
  • Lead and manufacture diagnostics kits.
  • Print and apply labels, and perform QC of vial labels.
  • Manage reagents to include dispensing, drying, and lyophilization.
  • Perform DNA extractions/PCR.
  • Ensure specimens are processed and triaged, maintaining "chain of custody."
  • Record results according to SOP standards and maintain detailed records.
  • Maintain inventory and order materials/glassware.
  • Maintain decontamination of freezers and fridges.
  • Assist with kit assemblies and dispensing as needed.
  • Prepare routine reports and documents, and apply knowledge of the technical rules and procedures to document and prepare analyses and reports.
Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, basic medical science, or environmental laboratory science, or
  • 2-5 years of equivalent experience

Required:

  • Experience working with established SOPs across molecular and microbiological techniques.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the preparation of memos and reports.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role.
  • Previous experience with "chain of custody" materials and transfers.
  • Experience modifying methods based upon evaluation of research results.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience writing project reports, research protocols and manuscripts.
  • Specific detailed knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirements, handling of clinical specimens, and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of documentation for equipment calibration and validation.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and inventory software functions.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
