Facilities and Operations Manager



The Facilities and Operations Manager assists with oversight of all facilities-related matters at the School of Dental Medicine. The school’s facilities in Salk Hall and Annex include dental clinics, patient waiting rooms, classrooms, and general office and administrative space, as well as research laboratories in Salk Pavilion. Responsibilities include daily operations management of all facilities, spearheading responses to emergencies such as leaks, power outages, etc., serving as liaison to University Facilities Management (including Custodial Services), contributing expertise to the design and appropriate staging of significant renovation projects and upgrades, serving as primary point of contact with all onsite tradespeople and dental equipment repair technicians, coordination of moves and transitional space needs, and consulting on major clinical equipment purchases (including emerging technologies) and service contracts. Individual to run aging reports of work order requests, and assist FM to prioritize work and schedule accordingly. Responsibilities will also include serving as the liaison to other university groups such as Pitt Police, EH&S, and Parking and Transportation. The incumbent will work under the direction of the school’s Director of Facilities and Operations.

Job Summary

Manages building operations and maintenance and monitors provided services to ensure compliance with schedule, budget, and standards. Coordinates all internal and external contractors, workers, and vendors. Designs a suggestion and complaints system and ensures resolution. Schedules shutdowns and coordinates emergency response efforts.


Essential Functions
  • Act as a liaison to University Facility Management to ensure cleanliness standards are met, building systems are operating at maximum efficiency, and faculty, residents, staff and students are receiving proper service.
  • Manage updating capital improvement plans, budgeting, and space management/allocation planning.
  • Draft policies for the responsibility center involving safety and infection control. Lead the School's Safety Committee.
  • Assessing and prioritize functions of the patient experience analyzing data from surveys to increase the "door to door" experience for all patients at the School.
  • Oversee dental equipment maintenance contracts.

Physical Effort

Incumbent may spend much of the day walking/moving around the facility.
