Reporting to the Associate Director of Research Services and Scholarly Engagement, the Digital Scholarship Multimedia Specialist, leads the development and delivery of strategic, high quality, multimedia digital scholarship services to advance teaching, learning, and research. Shares expertise with students, faculty, and library staff through teaching, consultations, and tutorials. Manages multimedia spaces and equipment in the Digital Scholarship Lab (DSL). Collaborates with the Digital Scholarship Librarian on services and operations in the DSL.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leadership – Serves as the library’s expert for multimedia services, which may include sound and image production, digital media editing, A/V and AR/VR studios. Provides hands-on technical assistance, training, and information on best practices. Tracks lab technology usage and technical problems related to lab and studio operations and collaborates with the Digital Scholarship Librarian and Library Technology Department to acquire and maintain equipment and to resolve issues. Develops and documents necessary policies and procedures, training and support materials, and maintains knowledgebase of best practices and processes.
  • Multimedia Equipment Management and Maintenance – Selects and maintains the appropriate tools and technology in the Digital Scholarship Lab and ensures multimedia hardware and software are up-to-date and compliant with university standards. Manages the digital scholarship equipment loan program.
  • Education, Consultation, and Outreach – Shares expertise through teaching, consultations, tutorials, and other means. Partners with students, faculty, and staff on multimedia projects. Consults with patrons on the efficient and effective use of multimedia tools and technology offered by the Digital Scholarship Lab. Creates educational resources to facilitate student and faculty scholarship. Contributes to programming, outreach, and collaborative projects related to digital scholarship at Villanova University.
  • Professional Development – Engages in continual professional development to maintain and grow skills. Keeps current with trends and emerging issues in areas of responsibility and expertise. Shares knowledge with library staff.
  • Contributes to programs, goals, and strategic initiatives of the Research Services and Scholarly Engagement department, Falvey Library, Villanova University, and professional organizations, as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3+ years of experience in multimedia production, using a broad range of tools and technologies.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and sustaining multimedia applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and provide excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with diverse user communities.
  • Independence and initiative, including ability to be flexible and manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective training modules/tools.
  • Proficiency in using multimedia software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Garage Band, Audacity, Ableton, Reaper, and other industry-standard applications.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in multimedia content development and creation.
  • Familiarity with audio-visual recording equipment and systems, such as professional camcorders, DSLR cameras, 360-degree cameras, A/V switchers, and professional lighting and sound.
  • Expertise using Windows PC and Apple/Mac hardware and software.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, strongly preferred.
  • Experience successfully managing projects.
  • Experience in providing on-demand and appointment-based technical assistance.
  • Experience consulting and teaching workshops on multimedia applications
  • Demonstrated ability with selection, testing, and evaluation of new technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to create media projects which include print and graphic design, photography/videography, podcasting, and audio/video editing.
  • Demonstrated ability with planning, development, and coordination of multimedia services and functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and master technologies, equipment, and systems as they evolve.
  • Demonstrated ability to inventory equipment and conduct audits
  • Clear understanding of media production workflows.
  • Strong understanding of emerging multimedia technologies, 3D modeling software, platforms, and trends, including in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and their relevant development tools
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time, frequent bending and lifting, able to lift up to 15 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking, pushing, and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs., ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays on a regular or interim basis to meet service needs of the Library.
