Position Title:Inpatient Therapist - BIRCH Hospital
Location: Owensboro, KY
Description:
The Inpatient Therapist for the Birch Program provides specialized clinical services to adolescents in a long-term inpatient psychiatric unit. This role supports youth recovery through comprehensive assessments, individualized treatment planning, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, all delivered in accordance with professional standards and program goals.
Essential Functions:
Conduct thorough psychosocial assessments of adolescents admitted to the Birch Program.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, addressing the unique needs of youth with complex mental health challenges.
Provide individual, group, and family therapy sessions utilizing evidence-based practices.
Respond to crisis situations and participate in de-escalation and intervention planning.
Facilitate psychoeducational groups on coping skills, emotional regulation and social skills.
Engage and support families through therapy sessions, psychoeducation and discharge planning.
Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and behavioral health staff.
Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans.
Actively participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Stay current on advancements in adolescent mental health treatment and participate in ongoing professional development.
Advocate for the needs and rights of adolescents within the hospital and broader system.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Master’s or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field required (as determined by funding agencies).
Minimum of two years’ clinical experience preferred; candidates with less experience who meet state requirements will be considered.
Licensure/Certification:
Active licensure required (CSW, LCSW, LPCA, or LPCC).
Valid driver’s license
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong skills in assessment, intervention, crisis management, and trauma-informed care.
Effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
Ability to maintain professionalism and emotional resilience in a high-acuity environment.
