Position Title:Inpatient Therapist - BIRCH Hospital

Location: Owensboro, KY

Description:

The Inpatient Therapist for the Birch Program provides specialized clinical services to adolescents in a long-term inpatient psychiatric unit. This role supports youth recovery through comprehensive assessments, individualized treatment planning, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, all delivered in accordance with professional standards and program goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct thorough psychosocial assessments of adolescents admitted to the Birch Program.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, addressing the unique needs of youth with complex mental health challenges.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy sessions utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Respond to crisis situations and participate in de-escalation and intervention planning.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups on coping skills, emotional regulation and social skills.
  • Engage and support families through therapy sessions, psychoeducation and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and behavioral health staff.
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Actively participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Stay current on advancements in adolescent mental health treatment and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of adolescents within the hospital and broader system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field required (as determined by funding agencies).
  • Minimum of two years’ clinical experience preferred; candidates with less experience who meet state requirements will be considered.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Active licensure required (CSW, LCSW, LPCA, or LPCC).
  • Valid driver’s license

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong skills in assessment, intervention, crisis management, and trauma-informed care.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and emotional resilience in a high-acuity environment.
