Job Description Summary
The Staff Clinician provides culturally responsive, short-term mental health support to undergraduate and graduate students through clinical evaluation, brief treatment, and crisis intervention. This position also includes the supervision of advanced doctoral practicum trainees, contribution to campus-wide mental health initiatives, and consultation on policies that promote student wellbeing. The clinician will collaborate with campus partners, including the Health Center and student affairs departments, to deliver outreach, prevention, and education and training efforts that foster a supportive and inclusive university environment.Essential Duties
Clinical Services
Provide in-person and virtual mental health services including diagnostic assessments, short-term individual therapy, and crisis intervention.
Assess risk for self-harm, harm to others, and other urgent mental health concerns; coordinate hospitalization or other outside supports when necessary.
Maintain thorough and timely documentation of clinical encounters in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
Collaborate with off-campus providers for referrals and continuity of care.
Training & Supervision
Provide weekly individual and/or group supervision to doctoral practicum trainees.
Participate in training seminars and provide feedback to supervisees.
Engage in continued professional development and training activities.
Outreach & Prevention
Develop and facilitate workshops, trainings, and outreach events focused on topics including wellbeing, resilience, identity, and mental health, as well as others as needed.
Partner with student organizations, faculty, and staff to tailor programming that meets diverse student needs.
Support campus and Counseling Center mental health screening and prevention efforts.
Consultation & Campus Engagement
Serve as a consultant for faculty, staff, and administrators regarding student mental health concerns.
Participate in university committees related to student wellbeing, equity, or crisis response, as well as other general committees.
Represent the Counseling Center at campus events such as orientation, wellbeing events, spring day and accepted students day. This is not an on call position, but the staff clinician may need to be available outside of regular business hours for some of these campus events as well as in the event of a critical incident on campus.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or Master’s in Social Work from an accredited program.
Current Massachusetts licensure as a Psychologist or LICSW, or license eligibility with full licensure within 12 months of hire.
Experience in brief therapy models, crisis intervention, and clinical assessment.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with diverse student populations, particularly those who identify as LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, first-generation, or international students.
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, including internships or postdoctoral training in mental health settings.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a college counseling center or higher education environment.
Familiarity with case management and referral systems.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate across departments and disciplines.
