Essential Job Functions:  

Schedule Criminal, Juvenile, Civil and Family cases for the appropriate hearings and assign the cases to Magistrates, Judges and holding dockets. Refer to Magistrates, Judges and court calendars and coordinate with all parties to schedule cases for hearing or trial. Prepare and distribute Magistrates, Settlement and Criminal dockets. Assist the public and attorneys by processing motions and postponement requests through Odyssey File & Serve and Task Manager, coordinating and rescheduling hearing and trial dates, and providing information about the status of cases in the office, over the phone and at the Information Desk in the front lobby.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Hearing / Trial Scheduling:

Review and timely schedule criminal, juvenile, civil and family law cases for hearing / trial.

Prepare and mail notices, summons, writs, and scheduling orders.

Process postponements, schedule preset postponement hearings and contact attorneys to reschedule cases.

Schedule juvenile arraignments and adjudications for juvenile delinquency cases.

Refer to Judges, Magistrates, Settlement Court and Mediations? court and leave calendars, and coordinate with parties to schedule or reschedule cases for hearing / trial.

Issue summons and writs for transportation of incarcerated individuals for scheduled court hearings.

Schedule Remote Zoom Hearings using Zoom for Government and Odyssey

MDEC Processing:

Accept envelopes from File & Serve into Odyssey and process them according to assignment procedures, State Court Administrator's Policy, and Maryland Rules.

Manage, process and complete tasks with high priority level first then all others as they are received in Task Manager.

Review cases tasked to Assignment to determine what actions are ready to schedule for hearing and / or trial. Determine when a case needs to be removed from the assignment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma (or GED equivalent).

Experience:

One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services

Note:

A Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.

A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.

A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.

Knowledge of:

Reading and applying job-related terminology, codes, policies, procedures, regulations, and laws as required to exercise judgment in their interpretation and application.

Defining problems, collecting, and recording data, establishing facts, drawing valid conclusions, applying common sense understanding and making decisions based on knowledge and experience to solve problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.

The functions, duties, policies, procedures, and forms of the Division to recommend modifications to improve practices.

Skill in:

Operating a personal computer and / or laptop to perform basic entry error-free and use a desktop scanner and printer.

Operating a multiple line telephone and answer incoming telephone calls in a respectful and professional manner; repeat information in the correct text it was given.

Operating a copier to make copies, fax documents and scan documents to email.

Ability to:

Communicate verbally and in writing utilizing proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling in an , and tactful manner with internal and external customers, including co-workers.

Read and interpret comments, notations, and orders, record essential information, and initiate appropriate course of action.

Multi-task by organizing, setting priorities, focusing, and concentrating to simultaneously process work and responsibilities error-free within considerable time constraints and in an environment with continuous interruptions; make corrections as needed.

Articulate directions, instructions and information in a group or a one-on-one setting to Attorneys, Defendants, Judges, Magistrates, Court staff and other Court agencies using proper word tense and annotation.

Focus on attention to detail and multi-tasking.

Work in an environment with continuous interruptions.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
