Description:

Responsibilities

Basic Purpose
Responsible for the development and rollout of safety policies and procedures based on the industry’s best practices; recruiting, training, and directing the safety department team; and developing and overseeing the departmental budget. Allocates safety related resources to meet the needs of senior management, front line leaders and employees while ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures Company’s compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations related to industrial safety, and that all day-to-day safety functions, initiatives, and programs are consistent with corporate policies.
Develops long-range plans in support of company safety goals and objectives. Creates and implements a strategic approach to improve safety performance within all of the Company’s facilities and business units.
Provides safety department oversight to any emergencies or unplanned events that may occur. Acts as an internal liaison with the corporate security and emergency management departments as well as develop a relationship with local police, fire, and emergency personnel.
Provides leadership and supervision for a team of safety advisors and leaders within the department. Ensures consistency among staff, adherence to customer service standards, assists in the development of policy, coordinates workload and assists line management in improving performance.
Develops and implements programs designed to eliminate safety and health risks, injuries, illnesses and financial losses. Counsels all levels of employees on best practices in safety management.
Provides the vision and direction for accident prevention processes, employee safety training, employee health and wellness and public safety education efforts.
Advises and provides direction to Senior Leadership to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. Ensures utilization of a highly trained workforce capable of meeting the skill levels required to be successful in the constantly changing utility industry.
Has authority to stop work because of unsafe work practices or conditions.
Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school plus 8 years of related work experience.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 12 years of related work experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • Federal, state and local regulatory agencies and regulations, and enforcement practices.
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment
  • Issues, trends, and best practices in safety.
  • Developing and implementing organizational vision, strategy, and goals with and for internal customers and key stakeholders.
Skills such as:
  • Analytical, interpersonal and communication.
  • Developing and sustaining collaborative relationships with internal and external customers
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No special physical demands required.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $137,000 (Min) to $161,200 (Mid); Up to 20% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
