Director, Student Affairs



The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is seeking a qualified Director of Student Affairs. Recently ranked 2nd (tie) by US News & World Report for our Nurse Anesthesia DNP program, 4th (tie) for our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, and 5th for our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner DNP program, the School of Nursing continues to be one of the most reputable and well-known nursing education schools in the country for both undergraduate and graduate level programs. The school is searching for a director to manage its Student Affairs Office. The Director will oversee the Student Affairs Office, providing strategic leadership for academic operations, advising, and student support services. The Director leads complex projects, makes strategic decisions, and ensures high-quality student experiences that meet educational and accreditation standards. The Director will be responsible for the supervision of seven staff members. A bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience is required. A master's degree and 5 years of experience in academic operations, advising, and student support, or higher education, is preferred.


Job Summary

Oversees the University's academic advising functions and includes departmental or unit direction, goals, strategies, and polices. Ensures student records and data integrity, advises and assists senior administrators, supervises staff and human resource actions, oversees departmental workflow and communications, and prepares budget.


Essential Functions

1. Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all student affairs functions, including academic operations, academic advising, and mental health support, ensuring alignment with the mission and goals of the School of Nursing.
2. Manage academic operations such as room reservations, and systems administration in platforms like PeopleSoft and Canvas, in close coordination with program directors and faculty.
3. Supervise academic advising services across all programs (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral), promoting student retention, progression, and success through proactive, student-centered advising practices.
4. Oversee processes for student concerns, grade disputes, and academic standing, ensuring timely resolution in accordance with School and University policies.
5. Lead and support the School’s student mental health counseling services, ensuring access to high-quality, confidential resources and appropriate referrals in coordination with University partners.
6. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and interventions that promote student engagement, academic integrity, and a healthy learning environment.
7. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and leadership to identify and address barriers to student success, using data and student feedback to drive continuous improvement.
8. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Student Affairs team members, fostering a culture of professional growth, accountability, and high performance.
9. Represent the School of Nursing on University-wide committees and working groups related to student services, academic operations, and wellness initiatives, ensuring the School’s interests and needs are effectively communicated and addressed.
