Job Function:
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance of a variety of building, installing, maintaining and repairing tasks requiring a good knowledge of one or more of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades, such a carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical repair, welding, sheet metal work, auto mechanics, masonry, heating/air conditioning, sewage facilities maintenance and related trades. General supervision is received from a higher level employee in the form of work assignments, but independent judgment is exercised in choosing methods or procedures. This title differs from Maintenance Mechanic II in the greater responsibility for proper implementation and completion of a large project, requiring the coordination of many activities or trade skills. The Maintenance Mechanic I would be expected to have a higher skill level than a Maintenance Mechanic II. The work is reviewed by checking completed work, by periodic spot checks, or by reports to superiors. General supervision may be exercised over a small number of Maintenance Mechanics II, Maintenance Mechanics III, Laborers or other lower level employees. Does related work as required.

Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of one or more of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades; ability to work from plans, specifications and rough sketches; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to work well with others; demonstrated skill in at least one of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades; good hand and eye coordination; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: If you are appointed, you will be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Salary: $47,846.38 per year with an increment at 6 months of service.
