Description: Description

The School of Business at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and strategic leader to serve as the Director of the International Trade Center (ITC). This individual will play a key role in supporting the global engagement of the School of Business by developing and strengthening essential partnerships and providing high-level leadership to drive the success of the ITC's mission. As the Director, you will oversee the operations of the ITC, ensuring its position as a premier resource for export-ready firms and international trade counseling.

What You'll Do:

  • Leadership & Management: Direct and manage the daily operations of the ITC, ensuring efficient delivery of services and resources to clients, including small businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • Export Counseling: Lead international trade counseling efforts, offering expert guidance to clients regarding market and country data, export readiness, and international trade leads. Assess client needs and provide tailored guidance through export requirements and processes.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with key stakeholders including the Illinois Office of Trade and Investment, Illinois SBDC leadership, and international trade partners. Build and maintain strong relationships to enhance support for ITC initiatives and strengthen its role in fostering global trade opportunities.
  • Event Coordination: Plan, coordinate, and actively participate in business-to-business matchmaking events with international partners to promote Illinois business trade and expand global engagement opportunities for local businesses.
  • Educational Outreach: Design, market, and deliver seminars, workshops, and conferences on international trade, educating clients, businesses, and entrepreneurs on the complexities of global markets.
  • Networking & Advocacy: Establish and nurture a regional network of exporting businesses and service providers. Represent the ITC at trade groups, government bodies, and industry events, delivering presentations and advocating for the advancement of Illinois businesses in the international market.
  • Trade Missions: Organize and lead international trade and educational missions, working alongside SIUE leadership and state officials to promote and expand opportunities for southern Illinois businesses in global markets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Innovate and implement strategies to improve ITC services, client outcomes, and organizational efficiency. Stay abreast of international trade trends and best practices to ensure the ITC remains at the forefront of trade assistance and client support.
  • Team Development: Provide leadership and guidance to ITC staff, fostering an environment of collaboration and professional growth. Ensure effective coordination of client counseling functions with local, regional, and international partners.


Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) years of experience in a related field such as international trade, export/import operations, global market development, business consulting, economic development, supply chain management, or a similar area.
  • *A Master's degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may substitute for one (1) year of required experience.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and familiarity with international business practices are also required.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.
