Med-Microbiology and Molecular Genetics - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25002818)

The newly established Lab of John Manion in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Assoicate. The Manion Lab investigates the interface between microbes and barrier tissue cells at mucosal surfaces using novel technological approaches.

The incumbent will be involved in projects that investigate the interaction of C. difficile toxins with hosts, neuroimmune interactions, and develop effective vaccines for mucosal pathogens. The successful candidate will work closely with the PI and other lab members to perform experiments, key roles involve flow cytometry of colonic immune cells, C. difficile infection models, purification of proteins, and production of constructs. Additional duties may involve developing lab standard operating procedures and training of graduate students.

Candidates must have a PhD in Neurobiology and prior experience culturing C. difficile, working with C. difficile toxins, performing in vivo models of C. difficile infection, and establishing and performing models of autonomic dysfunction. Advanced study of infectious disease and neurobiology is required.
