Pay Rate

$39.04 per hour. This is a full-time, on-site role (40 hours per week), with occasional weekend and overtime hours required as needed. This position is part of a seniority based Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) and requires work on various shifts.

Position Summary

The Seamer Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the efficiency and safety of all departmental equipment and operations. The role will focus on setting up, maintaining, troubleshooting, and overhauling seamers and capping equipment, as well as supporting related mechanical systems across the facility.

 

Primary job duties would include:

  • Adjust and set seamers and cappers to ensure proper closures.
  • Perform seam testing (cutting, inspection, micrometer).
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a range of equipment, including fillers, seamers, cappers, conveyance, vacuum systems, and pneumatics.
  • Conduct running repairs and execute preventive maintenance.
  • Dismantle and overhaul equipment during off-season.
  • Communicate effectively in English (verbal and written) with supervisory and production teams.
  • Execute tasks independently and safely without direct supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, quality, and company standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, efficiency, and sanitation.
  • Supervise or assist other mechanics and operators as needed.
  • May be involved in maintenance and mechanical work in other departments such as cook rooms or can lines.
  • Perform tasks such as inspecting cans, oiling, greasing, cleaning, and general upkeep of the department.
  • Operate a forklift and maintain accurate time/production records as needed.
  • Provide backup or relief to other roles including machine operators or supervisory staff.
  • Support other plant maintenance projects during non-peak times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current experience operating or maintaining seaming and capping machinery in a production environment.
  • Must pass a job assessment for skills and qualifications.
  • Positive work history with regard to performance, conduct, and attendance.
  • Ability to communicate and document in English.
  • Resume required upon request.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant industrial or food manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Technical certification or associate’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or related field (may substitute one year of required experience).
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with cable-driven can lines, seamer alignment, and vacuum systems is a plus
