Overview

Lutron is seeking a talented engineer to join our Mold and Die Team at our Global Headquarters in Coopersburg, PA. In this role, you would be a key part of the Engineering team to support the growth and development of our mechanical tooling, manufacturing sciences, and mechanical core competency. This role will allow you the opportunity to gain valuable training and specialization in the development of mechanical parts.

 

Additionally, in this position you will help support engineers, consultants, and Lutron suppliers through discussions on designs and processing as well as tool development, which is utilized to produce mechanical parts used in Lutron’s products. Our engineers contribute to all phases of the product life cycle from initial concept and prototyping to supporting production.



Responsibilities

  • Review, advise, and consult on the design of mechanical parts, including stress analysis, worst-case design, tolerance analysis, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, testing, and review
  • Consult and communicate with the Engineering team and Lutron suppliers on the manufacturing science of mechanical parts to include design for manufacturing, tool design, metrology, quality control plans, testing, and packaging
  • Investigate and converge on root cause for failure analysis with recommendations on next steps and alternative options
  • Research and develop qualification plans for materials/applications to provide solutions to engineering and senior leaders, which involve material selection, material characterization, mechanics of materials, and long-term material properties


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Material Sciences or a related field required
  • Minimum cumulative 3.00 GPA required
  • Minimum 3 years of previous experience using manufacturing sciences to include injection molding, high pressure die casting, progressive/stage dies, metal/plastic extrusion, etc.
  • Previous experience in part design, mechanics of materials, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, testing, and part qualification preferred
  • Willingness to travel 10-20% of the time for visits to suppliers and Lutron production facilities required
