Title: Wellness Counselor

Unit: Full-time MCCC Professional Staff, Senior Academic Counselor, Grade 06

Department: Student Support Services, Wellness Resource Center

Reports to: Assistant Dean of Student Support Services

Date: June 12, 2025

General Summary: The Wellness Counselor provides short-term, multiculturally competent psychological counseling and support to a highly diverse student population, fostering their personal development and academic success. This individual establishes and maintains partnerships with regional agencies to facilitate referral-based services for students requiring ongoing support. Additionally, the Wellness Counselor consults with faculty, staff, and administrators, offering professional development on student mental health and crisis intervention strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Counseling Assessment, Referral, and Crisis Intervention:

  • Assess and refer students to external mental health resources; provide onsite and virtual goal-oriented, short-term counseling as needed.
  • Respond to psychological emergencies and emotional crises, conducting clinical risk assessments and coordinating immediate outside services when necessary.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with area agencies, private referral options, and community resources to connect students requiring ongoing or specialized psychotherapy.

Consultation:

  • Advise faculty, staff, and administrators on student mental health concerns.
  • Participate in college service initiatives, including the Student Assessment and Intervention Team and the JED Campus initiative; assist with preliminary threat/risk assessments related to self-harm or harm to others.
  • Provide input on new, ongoing, or specialized student mental health-related grants and projects.
  • Develop and facilitate training for faculty, staff, and administrators on student mental health support strategies.

Mental Health Wellness Programs:

  • Support the development and coordination of the Counseling Internship Program in collaboration with regional graduate programs; supervise master's-level interns, overseeing daily activities, training, and clinical evaluations.
  • Partner with MCC staff, faculty, and external collaborators to create and deliver student mental health wellness programs, including psychoeducational workshops, informational outreach, and related initiatives.

General and Administrative Functions:

  • Manage administrative responsibilities related to departmental operations.
  • Develop assessment strategies to evaluate and enhance service effectiveness.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in psychological counseling, clinical and risk assessment, and crisis intervention; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current Massachusetts licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), with at least three years of post-licensure experience and the ability to supervise master's-level clinical interns.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in computer-based technologies, including Outlook, Zoom, and electronic health records.
  • Experience in a post-secondary educational setting.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus


Additional Information:

Salary Range: $99,589 is the starting salary for Column H under the MCCC Salary grids for a Grade 6 rank; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
